Philanthropic Pornography? This Business is helping Charities through Porn

If you like giving to charities without lifting a hand, the BeneVidz website might not be right for you. In all seriousness – the slightly silly logo aside – this tech start-up is shaking things up in the world of philanthropy.

The BeneVidz business model is simple. Watch porn webcam feeds and a portion of the proceeds are donated to a charity. They’re working with at least seven “reputable charity organizations” according to an article in BetaBeat. That’s more than enough to get their idea started.

Lend a Helping Hand

Basically, people are paying for access to an online livestream of either a man or woman stripping. Watchers can give more money to get the performers to do specific acts. The more money a performer makes, the more money that gets donated to charity. They’re raising money on RocketHub. At the time of writing this article, they had raised $1,410 toward their goal of $15,000 – with eight days left.

That’s not a lot of money and far from their goal, but it shows some people out there are willing to lend a helping hand. All bad puns aside, the model is interesting, but it may not be mainstream enough to really take off in the months and years ahead. This is going to be the key to a website like this flourishing and being able to succeed financially.

Benevidz was created by Michael A. Wondercub, who has written, “Our web-based platform presents a functional, fun, and intriguing way to give back. By providing millions of viewers a safe, high-class, user-friendly option for online erotica, we hope to reach our goal of donating 1 Million Dollars a year per Charitable Cause.”

The results of the fundraising on RocketHub were not very successful, but that doesn’t mean the website or idea is dead. With the adult industry so large, the chance for them to give back a little to society at large seems like a good thing in the eyes of many people. This is why the founders of the website are still working on making their dream a reality.

Performers at Benevidz can choose to donate between 10% to 15% percent of the money they earn during their camshow. They also get to decide which charity the money will help. While not many people seem to be active on the Benevidz website at one single time, the idea is out there and will sink or swim depending on how many people think it’s a good idea and decide to support them as they grow. (No pun intended). In a world where so much help is needed, new and innovative ideas like Benevidz may be able to actually help people which is a good thing.
