We can all get stuck in life. The skeletons in our closet could keep us from taking our next step. If we are not careful, we could get stuck in a rut. It could be a bitter experience or an unforgettable event that ripped us apart. But, whatever said and done, the best thing to do is to dig our heels in and try to move on. Let’s take a look at some of the things that could be holding us back:
Battles that don’t matter
Life is too short to fight everything that comes your way. You cannot waste all our time and energy fighting battles that do not matter. You should fight everything that comes between you and your destiny. But when you come across gossip, rumors, and politics, you don’t necessarily have to waste a lot of time trying to prove yourself or convince people to like you. You should know where to draw the line and stand your ground.
Nursing your wounds
Yes, you went through that disappointment, loss, or adversity. You can either sit with a chip on the shoulder and nurse your wounds, or you can stand up and move on. Life happens to everyone. But 90 % of the difference is how we respond to those challenges. Instead of allowing negative circumstances to lead you into more self-pity and depression, you could make up your mind and shift from a long moody face to a cheerful one. When you win the battle in your mind, most of the battle is almost won.
Guilt – all the way
Many people are so distraught because of their past mistakes and poor decisions, the guilt of the past keeps haunting them wherever they go and stops them from moving on in life. You should learn to stand up strong and be bold to take the next step. Instead of getting bogged down by the consequences of your decisions, you can decide to learn from them and make better decisions in life.
Getting stuck in a rut
Don’t just focus on the temporary displeasure and miss out on long term goals. You may be in an uncomfortable season of your life; but, a mature attitude says, “This season is not going to last forever. This too shall pass.” When you have that kind of attitude, nothing can stop you. You may slow down a bit, but the sooner you tune back to this attitude, you will be able to get back on track and start moving on towards your big goal.
Waiting for the ‘perfect’ time to start
Sometimes, after going through a turbulent season, we can be so caught up by it that we are not willing to move on. You may be waiting for the ‘perfect’ time to start. But, I say this very respectfully, that there is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ time. You could keep waiting all your life for everything to settle down. That’s why it’s important that we don’t just wait for our ‘miracle’ moment and gear up to make our miracle happen now.
No inclination to move on
Some people have made up their mind that they are not going anywhere in life. Giving up will not fetch you anything. It’s better to try and fail than to always wonder ‘what if I had tried?’ Henry Ford said, “Failure is an opportunity to start again more intelligently.”
Are you struggling to move on? If you just make up your mind, you could start again and accomplish everything you were meant to achieve.
